A Westchester teacher is getting national recognition for her cooking skills.
Daniela Savone of Mamaroneck is one of 40 contestants vying to be "MasterChef".
The FOX competitive cooking reality show pits home cooks against each other.
She says she learned to cook with her grandmother and while working in her father's Italian deli in West Haverstraw.
She teaches at Mamaroneck High School and says the whole experience is surreal. "I've never known what it's like to be behind the scenes, on set. The whole casting journey has been amazing. Just kind of pinching myself every day through the whole experience saying I can't believe this is happening to me."
She is competing this Wednesday for the coveted "white apron" in the Italian group at 8 p.m. on FOX.
