Westchester, state police put the brakes on speeders
Westchester County police are joining forces with state police to nab speeders on the Bronx River and Sprain Brook parkways.
The speed limit on the Bronx River Parkway is 45 mph, but police say many drivers go more than 70 mph. The move to step up traffic enforcement comes a week after a fatal crash on the parkway in Yonkers.
Bernard and Phyliss Cecere were killed after police say a car, driven by 19-year-old Justin Martinez, collided with the couple?s Cadillac and sent it off the road. The Cecere?s vehicle hit a tree and burst into flames. Martinez has been charged with speeding and driving while impaired by drugs.
With the holiday season approaching, police say they will be extra vigilant. Police will stop and ticket speeders and aggressive drivers to prevent tragic accidents, like the one that killed the Ceceres.
