A Westchester school board member has entered herself as the newest candidate to represent the 17th District.
Liz Gereghty told News 12 she is fighting to unseat Rep. Mike Lawler in the 17th district, which includes all of Rockland and parts of Westchester counties.
“Right now, when I look around, I see some problems we need address,” said Gereghty. “We have a radical Republican Congress more intent on banning books and regulating woman than dealing with weapons of war on our streets and at the same time we are seeing the cost of living going up. It’s harder to afford living in the Hudson valley. It’s harder to run small businesses and keep it growing and see it thrive."
Before Gereghty can take on Lawler, she'll likely have to win a competitive primary next summer. At least two other Democrats are considering a run, including former Rep. Mondaire Jones.
