Westchester residents were out enjoying a beautiful summer day Tuesday, however, a year ago they were dealing with the wrath of Mother Nature.

On July 12, 2006, the county was hit with its first-ever F2 tornado. Mount Pleasant and Sleepy Hollow were hardest hit. Hundreds of trees and power lines were down and many homes were partially or completely destroyed.

Just as residents started to get their power restored, a heat wave caused major blackouts. At one point, 25,000 customers were without power. The wicked weather continued when another powerful storm swept through the county, knocking out power once again. Many homeowners and businesses suffered damage that took months to clean up.

Lawmakers pushed to get federal aid for the county after the summer of storms, but to no avail.
