A Catholic priest was taken into police custody Monday night after a woman told the authorities he fondled her four years ago, police say.
Rev. Richard Ordonez, who often works at St. Vito's Church in Mamaroneck, is facing a first-degree sexual abuse charge.
Some employees of the Mamaroneck parish say they do not want to jump to conclusions in regard to Ordonez, saying he was a well-respected cleric in the community.
Joe Zwilling, spokesman for the New York Archdiocese, says Ordonez is a visiting priest from Ecuador, and he is not affiliated with the archdiocese.
Ordonez is being held at the Westchester County Jail without bail. He is due back in court Dec. 18
