Long after the rain tapered off, gusts of wind that continued sweeping through Westchester Tuesday were strong enough to down trees and power lines, making for a tough commute.
The wet and windy weather was also accompanied by a cold spell, forcing local residents to dig their winter jackets and waterproof gear out of the closet.
?It?s nasty, I have to hold [an] umbrella tight or else it'll blow away,? says Fatou Mattabibba, of Mamaroneck.
The amount of rain that came down earlier in the day caused accidents and left many streets under water. Department of Public Works employees were in the field, clearing up toppled trees and monitoring areas prone to flooding.
?I'd rather be cutting grass [and] chasing trees [than] worrying about them falling and hitting someone,? says DPW worker Guy Gioffre.
