Two new testing sites opened Friday in Westchester communities that have been hard hit by the coronavirus.
The first state-run walk-up sites are at St. John's Riverside Hospital ParkCare Pavilion in Yonkers and at the Mount Vernon Neighborhood Health Center on 4th Street.
This means you can walk in and get tested if you don't have a car.
According to Yonkers officials, there is an urgent need for testing since more than 3,000 people in the city have tested positive for the coronavirus, and more than 200 have lost their lives. Mount Vernon officials say their city is on track to have the second highest number of coronavirus cases in Westchester behind Yonkers.
The state Health Department will start reaching out to residents who have already called the COVID-19 hotline to get tested. They will start with Yonkers residents who live in the 10701 zip code and expand to residents who live in surrounding zip codes in the following days.
"This takes the best of the exterior testing the safety that that offers the ability to screen and then in a separate location — just walk up for screening and expand that to offer to folks who want to walk up and access it," says Allison DuBois, COO of Hudson River Healthcare.
Both sites will open be Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The testing procedure includes a swab of both nostrils. Results are expected to be available within 24 hours of the test.
You have an appointment at both locations. To make an appointment, call the state's COVID-19 hotline at 1-888-364-3065.
