The Westchester County Health Department reported 2023's first positive human case of West Nile virus in the county.

That case was confirmed in a New Rochelle resident.

West Nile infection often causes mild or moderate flu-like symptoms. It can be more serious for those 60 and older and those with health complications.

The Health Department reminds residents to remove any standing water from their property to prevent mosquitoes from breeding.
