Hours before the election results are in, Democrats across Westchester are getting ready to celebrate the possible victory of the first African?American presidential candidate, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.).Hundreds of people are expected to fill the Democratic headquarters in Mount Vernon to wait for the returns throughout the evening hours after a day of unprecedented voter turnout across the county.?We are expecting 80 percent voter turnout, which is unheard of,? says Mount Vernon Mayor Clinton Young.
According to Young, the high number of people going to the polls is largely attributed to the excitement generated by Obama?s historic bid for the presidency of the United States.
The preparations for the big victory party are also in full swing in the Democratic headquarters in Rye Brook, where some of the most prominent party leaders from Orange and Rockland counties are expected to attend the event organized by Congresswoman Nita Lowey.
