Westchester County's top prosecutor says it is time for lawmakers to pass stricter gun laws, even if that means taking guns away from some people.
District Attorney Anthony Scarpino says he supports a new bill which would allow a police officer to take guns away from someone in a crisis and prevent them from buying another one.
Some gun owners say they are skeptical about the Extreme Risk Protection Order.
Denine Timlin, owner of RT Gun and Smoke Shop in Mount Vernon, says she firmly believes in screening for mental health when it comes to buying a gun, but says a law like this will have some loopholes.
Timlin says she fears that if the bill were to pass, those gun owners could have their Second Amendment rights infringed upon. Scarpino says that is not the case.
"This is not a gun control position," Scarpino says. "This is a position that deals with gun safety."
