A second investigation is under way into questionable spending at the Westchester County Board.
Gary Kriss, the chief adviser to Democratic Board Chairman Bill Ryan, is already under investigation by the district attorney?s office. Kriss is accused of using a county-issued credit card to purchase tens of thousands of dollars worth of printers and software, which were sent directly to his house. Kriss also allegedly used the credit card to spend thousands on a cell phone and Blackberry charges.
A new committee, made up of five members of the Westchester County Board, will deal specifically with internal controls and procedures. They will further investigate the Kriss probe by looking into management issues, potential criminal matter and issues of public confidence.
The probe will take place while the district attorney?s investigation is still going on, but the investigations will be looking at different items. The committee will look into spending procedures and the district attorney is conducting a criminal investigation.
The special committee hopes to complete its investigation by the end of the summer.
