Bruce Jenner went public with her transition to Caitlyn via the cover of Vanity Fair this week, and the Tarrytown-Sleepy Hollow community is already rallying behind her.

Jenner, an Olympian and Westchester native, gained her footing on the track of Sleepy Hollow High School, the community of which says they are more proud than ever to call her an alumnus.

Principal Carol Conklin-Spillane says excitement is building for their annual sports banquet this Wednesday, where one student will win the 2015 Bruce Jenner Award for Tenacity. The principal says that while they thought about renaming the award, there are no current plans to do so.

The 65-year-old Jenner's transition is being hailed as a game-changer for the local LGBT community. Organizations such as the LOFT, a not-for-profit based in White Plains, says that in the past two months, more and more people have been finding the courage to move forward with their own transitions.

Jenner's new Twitter account already has more than 2 million followers.
