Westchester bomber bandit described as troubled actor
The drama teacher of the suspected bomber bandit, who is due in court Tuesday for allegedly robbing Westchester stores, describes him as a talented and troubled man.
Katherine Vockins runs an arts rehabilitation program at Sing Sing. Vockins says 47-year-old David Wayne Britton helped create the theater group during his stay at the prison. Britton cultivated his skills behind bars, writing a screenplay based on how he dressed up in a tuxedo and robbed people in Manhattan. The convict, who had the benefit of a good education and tennis lessons as a child, even landed a part earlier this year on ?Law and Order.? However, Vockins says Britton?s ego gets in the way of his potential.
Britton was arrested December 1 when a shopper at a Hartsdale Duane Reade spotted him and alerted police who were outside. Britton allegedly threatened to blow himself up when he robbed five businesses from Mount Pleasant to Yonkers over two weeks. Authorities say Britton also told clerks he had AIDS, but officials say neither claim is true.
