In a unanimous vote Thursday, the Westchester Board of Health voted to ban the use of trans-fat cooking oil in all food establishments in the county.
The aim of the ban is to keep residents healthy. Westchester is following in the footsteps of New York City, where a similar ban was already passed. The health commissioner says getting rid of unhealthy fats will actually help save lives.
The county will send a letter to all food establishments informing them about the ban, and they will have 90 days to comply. To view interviews on the trans fat ban, go to channel 612 on your iO digital cable box and click on iO Extra.
