The primary race for New Windsor's town supervisor is shaping up to be a real nail-biter, pitting two well-known Republicans against one another.
It's the first time in three decades that there's an open race for the town's top job.
News 12 caught up with the candidates in the running - Colin Schmitt and Stephen Bedetti.
Bedetti, the deputy town supervisor and longtime emergency responder, earned the endorsement of party leaders at a nominating convention earlier this year, clinching the bragging rights as the GOP designee.
His opponent Schmitt is a commercial real estate agent and Army National Guard sergeant who was hired earlier this year by the Town of Clarkstown.
He is running on the Conservative line in the November election and says his record of leadership speaks for itself.
With no Democrat currently in the race, the primary winner will likely go on to replace current Town Supervisor George Meyers, who is retiring the end of this year.
