While last weekend marked the first full weekend of the new citywide 25 mph speed limit, it was filled with fatal accidents.

On Saturday night in Queens, a 79-year-old man was hit and killed by a van while he was crossing a street.

An elderly woman was also hit and killed by a car on Saturday in the East New York section of Brooklyn. Police say a 76-year-old woman was walking in the middle of a street when she was hit by a white BMW. The driver immediately stopped and reported the accident. According to police, the driver said he tried to swerve to miss her.

In the Bronx, a woman was killed trying to cross the Major Deegan Expressway early Sunday morning. Police say the victim was hit in the northbound lanes near the West 179th Street exit just after midnight. A 24-year-old man driving a two-door Honda sedan allegedly hit her as she tried to cross from east to west. The driver sped off, but reported the incident to nearby fire officials.

It is currently unclear what charges, if any, the driver in the Bronx case will face.

Police say that the victims in Queens and Brooklyn were walking outside the crosswalk at the time of the incidents.
