Wedding party brawl lands newlyweds in jail
A Port Chester bride, groom and maid of honor were arrested at a wedding reception after police say they got into a brawl with band members inside a church.
The wedding took place at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Port Chester Saturday night. Police say the bride, 41-year-old Fabiana Reyes, and the groom, 42-year-old Elmo Jesus Fernandez, started arguing with each other as to whether the band or DJ should be playing.
According to police, one of the band members called 911 after they say they saw the groom grab a bottle threatening to throw it at them. A melee broke out involving the bride, groom and their 21-year-old daughter, Helen Fernandez. Police say the groom and daughter both fought with cops while they were trying to make arrests.
Police say the bride, groom, their daughter and other guests stole and damaged the band's musical equipment to the tune of $1,500. Police say the couple have apparently already made restitution. Helen and Elmo Jesus Fernandez were charged with obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors. They were released on $250 bail Sunday morning. Reyes is charged with felony criminal mischief and remains in jail on $500 bail. She is also facing deportation to her native Peru.
