Weather: Snow to change over to rain
A storm system making its way to Westchester and the Hudson Valley is packing some snow before a changeover to a wintry mix and rain.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the region to be in effect through early Tuesday morning.
News 12 Meteorologist Joe Rao says he expects it to snow for most of the afternoon. Rao expects that as temperatures rise today, the snow will turn into an icy mixture before changing into all rain between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. in areas south of I-287. In areas north and west of I-287, Rao predicts that snow will change over to ice between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m., before turning into all rain overnight.
One to two inches of snow are predicted for areas south of I-287, while one to three inches of snow are expected in areas north and west of I-287. Ice is also expected to accumulate in all areas making driving treacherous on most roads.
Temperatures will rise overnight into Tuesday, and daytime highs on Tuesday will reach around 53 degrees. The precipitation continues on Tuesday, with scattered rain showers during the day and then heavier rain toward the evening.
Wednesday will be partly cloudy with highs in the low-40s, and Thursday will be colder, with temperatures around 35 degrees under mostly cloudy skies.
