Westchester youths who are carrying on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream were honored with scholarships Monday at a Tarrytown awards ceremony.

Yonkers High School sophomore Gero Eaton, who volunteers his time to help developmentally challenged children, was a recipient at the Sixth Annual Legacy Youth Awards. Mahopac High School senior Marvin Lassiter, who was also honored at the event, says he has learned valuable lessons about acceptance, diversity, justice and education from Dr. King.

Students heard from a guest speaker who knows all to well about wanting those things for himself. Jeffrey Deskovic was released from prison in September after serving 16 years for a rape and murder that DNA later exonerated him of committing. The Peekskill man says he wants to ensure no young people endure injustice.
