Westchester County honored the brave military men and women of the past and present with Veterans Day ceremonies Sunday.

Standing at attention and clutching American flags, veterans across Yonkers showed support in front of City Hall. The day was special for Remy Susini, who just completed a tour of duty in Iraq and is happy to be home.

"We have to keep tradition going, teach younger generations what it's all about," said Yonkers Deputy Mayor Bill Regan. "Some of them don't understand sacrifices that were made by many people.

At the White Plains Rural Cemetery, a canon and flagpole stood as symbols of the sacrifice military members make.

In Larchmont, a crowd gathered in front of the Village Hall.

People attending the ceremonies said they want people to realize Veterans Day is much more than a day off.

"Gives time to reflect on how much our comrades gave their whole lives in various wars and gives us strength to go forward," said veteran Joe Waldron.
