A water main break shut down a busy road for several hours in Westchester County Monday.
Officials say a 12-inch main broke Sunday afternoon on Route 35 in Yorktown.
Three homes in the area lost water for a period of time, and many others had discolored water while the pipe was replaced. Gushing water from the break froze overnight, creating dangerous driving conditions in the area. The age and cold weather are the suspected reasons for the breakage.
Crews had to smooth out the roadway that had to be dug up.
