Water main break shuts down busy street in Orangetown
A massive water main break has closed a busy street in Rockland County and will likely impact the Friday morning commute.
Officials say a 16-inch main busted on Sickletown Road in Orangetown at around 1:15 p.m Thursday. The break caused part of the concrete to cave in.
The street remains closed between Townline and Abbey roads. The closure has impacted traffic and bus routes. Officials with United Water have also said that dozens of homes went without water after the break.
United Water customers in West Nyack, Pearl River and Blauvelt may experience low water pressure and see murky water while the problem is being fixed. Crews expect the water to be completely restored at some point Thursday night.
Officials say a "boil water order" has been issued to 20 homes.
It's still unclear when the road with reopen.
