The local icon known for his popular Walter’s Hot Dog Stand has died.
Eugene Warrington, the owner of the Mamaroneck food stop, passed away this weekend surrounded by his family. He was 95 years old.
Warrington ran the stand that first opened in 1919 for more than six decades, but was around the business from a young age canning rolls, cooking hot dogs and more.
Warrington is known for more than just food in Mamaroneck – he also wrestled and played football and baseball at Mamaroneck High School, landing him in the school’s Hall of Fame.
He also was a volunteer firefighter, part of the Mamaroneck Historical Society, the Elks Club and joined the Navy during World War II.
Once he returned from the Navy, Warrington jumped back into the family business and built it into what it is today.
Eugene always credited his wife Gloria as his secret to success. They would’ve celebrated 70 years of marriage in November.
Wake services are open to the public and will take place at Coxe and Graziano Funeral Home on Tuesday and Wednesday. The funeral will be held Thursday.
