The Support-A-Walk for Breast and Ovarian Cancer was held at FDR State Park in Yorktown Heights Sunday.
The annual tradition was hosted by Support Connection, and raises money to help hundreds of people affected by the disease.
Suzan Conners is a breast cancer survivor. She says coming to the walk with her family is her way of helping others dealing with the illness.
"It's like a camaraderie to know that you're not alone to show your support to others that they're not alone,” says Conners.
For others, it was a chance to celebrate the strength of loved ones fighting the disease.
"My daughter-in-law is going through treatment for breast cancer. If my daughter can go through chemo radiation and surgery, I can certainly do 3 miles,” says participant Susan Strechay.
The walk was held during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Organizers say the walk is the biggest fundraiser for Support Connection. The money raised will help assist with free counseling and other services for people dealing with cancer.
