Relatives paid their respects Thursday during the private portion of a wake for a woman who was found dead in a Mount Vernon jail cell.

The wake for Raynette Turner, 42, who was a mother of eight, was held at Holy Tabernacle Church in Mount Vernon. "She holds a special place in our hearts here in the community," says pastor Doris Cohan. "And our love and outreach is to the children."

Among those attending the wake were family members of Ramarley Graham, who was fatally shot by NYPD officers in the Bronx in 2012.

Turner was found dead in a Mount Vernon holding cell on July 27, two days after she was arrested for allegedly shoplifting food. City officials say she had been awaiting arraignment. 

Police say a day after her arrest, Turner had complained about being ill and was taken to a hospital, but she vomited shortly before she was returned to her cell. 

Authorities say she was found dead the next day, appearing to have passed away in her sleep. City officials deny any wrongdoing in the case. 

Autopsy results were inconclusive, leaving Turner's loved ones with unanswered questions. Her relatives say they are now awaiting results of toxicology tests. 

State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, who is investigating the case, has said he will "follow the facts wherever they lead."

"We are not here to hold judgement," Cohan said at the wake. "We're here to give her a dignified home-going."

Turner's funeral is set for Friday.
