Wake held for lion attack victim
Family members gathered for a wake Friday for the Rye native killed by a lion at a wildlife park in South Africa.
The service for 29-year-old Katherine Chappell took place at the Graham Funeral Home in Rye. She was killed by a lion while on safari near Johannesburg earlier this week.
Chappell was a Hofstra University graduate and Emmy Award-winning video editor. She was in South Africa raising money to protect endangered wildlife.
She had attended the School of the Holy Child in Rye and was living in Vancouver just before her trip to Africa.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at noon.
