The village of Maybrook is calling on the state Department of Transportation to repair sidewalks on State Route 208.
Village officials sent a letter to the Department of Transportation Sept. 6 with several photos of the disrepair.
The state road and sidewalks are maintained by the DOT.
Mayor Dennis Leahy tells News 12 that residents are complaining to the village about the conditions and that its “frustrating” because the village can’t legally make the repairs.
A representative for the New York State Department of Transportation said they're in receipt of the letter from the Village of Maybrook regarding sidewalk repairs needed along State Route 208 and is reviewing it.
They added that according to Highway Law 46, any sidewalks along state highways within a village shall be maintained or shall be continued to be maintained by the village in which they are located.
Mayor Leahy said the DOT recently replaced a different section of sidewalk on Route 208 and that they are looking into the validity of the DOT's response.
