Family members of 9/11 victims from Westchester and local lawmakers gathered Friday at the Tallix Art Foundry in Beacon where a memorial is being built to remember those lost.
The memorial, called The Rising, will stand 80 feet tall with 109 intertwined steel beams, representing each Westchester victim. When it is completed the memorial will be placed at the foot of the Kensico Dam in Valhalla. It will sit in a base, called the circle of remembrance, with 109 granite stones.
The cost of the memorial was paid largely through grants, donations and fund raising. It is expected to be moved and officially dedicated at the site by the end of May.
