A veterans appreciation event was held at Glen Island Park in New Rochelle Monday.
The event featured food and music, but it also served as a moment of reflection to honor fallen soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice.
It also included tours of four helicopters, including a Sea Stallion, which is the largest military helicopter in use today and can carry up to 30 troops. Residents were allowed to go tour the helicopters and talk to U.S. Marines from Cherry Point, North Carolina who also joined the event.
Organizers tell News 12 the event is about the community coming together to remember the ones who didn't come home.
More than 2,000 New Rochelle residents served in WWI, and 61 of them lost their lives. A list of their names along with others who died in recent wars are on display along with a wreath .
