Veteran Eastchester cop mourned by hundreds at wake
Hundreds of people paid their respects Sunday to an Eastchester police officer who unexpectedly died while on duty during Friday's storm.
Police officers arrived with black bands on their badges and heavy hearts at the wake of Joseph DePippo. DePippo's fellow police officers remember the 54-year-old as a comical man who eased tension.
The 31-year veteran was working overnight during the winter storm when, just minutes before the end of his shift, he was found next to his patrol car. Authorities believe he suffered a heart attack. DePippo was rushed to the hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Another wake will be held March 19. A public funeral is planned for March 20 at Eastchester's Immaculate Conception Church at 10:30 a.m.
