Verdict in corruption case due Monday
Closing arguments have ended in the corruption trial of the former Spring Valley Mayor Noramie Jasmin.
The judge hearing the non-jury trial says a verdict will be read at 10:30 a.m. Monday at federal court in White Plains.
Jasmin, 51, was arrested last year, and is charged with wire fraud and extortion in connection with the so-called "Corridor of Corruption" case.
Prosecutors say that Jasmin abused her position as mayor to guarantee herself a 50-percent stake in a catering hall and community center on village-owned property.
Former Spring Valley Deputy Mayor Joseph Desmaret pleaded guilty last year to federal mail fraud and corruption charges in connection with the scandal. He is awaiting sentencing.
