Variety: Nicolas Cage set to star in scripted series as ‘Tiger King’ Joe Exotic
The Netflix documentary series “Tiger King” took the country by storm this March during the COVID-19 pandemic. And now it seems that fans will be able to see more of the colorful characters.
Actor Nicolas Cage is reportedly set to star in a scripted series as Joe Exotic – the self-proclaimed Tiger King, according to a report by Variety.
Variety reports that the eight-episode series is being produced by Imagine Television Studios and CBS Television Studios. It will reportedly be based on the Texas Monthly article “Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild,” by Leif Reigstad.
It will be Cage’s first television role.
The original Netflix series centers around Joe “Exotic” Schreibvogel, who owned a private zoo in Oklahoma featuring numerous large tigers, as he dealt with rival private zoo owners and animal rights activists.
Schreibvogel is currently in prison for his role in an attempted murder-for-hire plot against rival Carol Baskin, the CEO of Big Cat Rescue.
