Vandals struck this weekend in an Ossining cemetery, damaging dozens of headstones and leaving local taxpayers the bill, the cemetery's director says.
George Weeks, the cemetery director, estimates it will cost between $15,000 and $20,000 to fix the 66 headstones. Unfortunately, it's money the cemetery doesn't have, meaning taxpayers in Ossining will have to cover the tab.
"The people here are trying to bail out the banks - now it's the cemetery that needs a bailout and we're stuck with the bill," says Tony Costa, of Ossining.
