A 15-year-old from Valhalla is in critical condition after being slammed by a pickup truck Tuesday in what police are calling a freak accident.
Paul Salminen was rushed to the hospital after being struck at the intersection of Columbus Avenue and Oxford Street. According to his family, he is suffering from severe head trauma and a broken collar bone.
The pickup?s driver, Ricardo Flores, says he clipped the teenager while swerving to avoid hitting him head-on.
?I don't know what he was thinking,? says Flores. ?I don't know if he was paying attention.?
No charges have been filed against Flores so far.
