Families in Valhalla kicked off the holiday season with a tree lighting Friday.
The Winter Wonderland Tree Lighting happened at the Kensico Dam Plaza for the sixth year.
County officials came out to light the tree with 7-year-old, Mia Bento, a former cancer patient at the Maria Fareri Children's Hospital.
"It's really become Westchester's holiday tradition," says Christine La Porta of the Westchester Parks Foundation. "We hear from families that they come every year to take their holiday picture with Santa, to go to the circus and it's really becoming something really unique and significant to the area."
In addition to the tree, the wonderland has Santa's Village, an ice skating rink and a holiday light show with other attractions.
The wonderland will be open until January.
