A Uniondale man has been formally charged for his alleged role in a widespread dog fighting ring.
The Manhattan District Attorney announced an indictment against Benito Gittens.
The NYPD and ASPCA seized dogs from a home in Cooper Court back in October.
Newsday reports that the house is owned by Gittens. Investigators say training and abuse took place there as well as in homes in Washington Heights, Central Harlem and Middletown.
News 12 is told Gittens worked at a veterinary clinic, but was not licensed as a vet tech in New York.
He's accused of treating dogs so that they could continue to fight, and euthanizing those too badly injured to recover.
