Union members protested in White Plains Wednesday after they say four workers were let go from their jobs without an explanation.
Austin Cunney, a former chief engineer for Normandy Real Estate in White Plains, is one of four longtime employees who showed up for work Tuesday and was laid off.
The fired union workers performed a variety of maintenance-related duties for the company. They say they were let go by new managers who just want to hire cheaper labor. After 32 years, Cunney still hopes to get his job back.
"We want to be reinstated. We've done nothing wrong, and we feel we're a valuable asset to these companies," says Cunney.
Operating Engineers Union 30 workers gathered on Westchester Avenue. Some of them came from Connecticut and Long Island.
An associate who answered the phone at Normandy Real Estate said they have no comment.
