Underprivileged children in Yonkers are getting a chance to play ice hockey like the pros.
Leaders in Yonkers and members of the National Hockey League Players' Association gathered at Murray's Skating Center Thursday to celebrate the creation of the Yonkers Force Youth Hockey Program.
Yonkers police offered the community outreach program to teach ice hockey to underprivileged children in the city.
Thanks to donations, the children can play hockey on the ice with brand-new equipment alongside Yonkers’ finest.
“It's just fun for us to make that connection with a child and do what we love and hopefully they'll love and see police officers in a different light,” said instructor Pat McCormick.
Those who would like to get involved in the program can contact the Yonkers Police Department.
