Ulster County has crowned its first poet laureate.
The county says the appointment of Kate Hymes as poet laureate is a true reflection of her talent, dedication and contributions to the community.
The New Paltz native has led Wallkill Valley Writers workshops for over 20 years.
Her recent work is inspired by the history of the people of African descent in New Paltz and Ulster County, according to Arts Mid-Hudson.
