An Ulster County man has been sentenced 18 years to life in prison for the murder of his ex-girlfriend's current boyfriend.
Walter Post Jr., 26, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder back in January for the fatal shooting of 29-year-old Michael Hankins in the town of Shawangunk.
Authorities say Post stalked his ex-girlfriend at her home, where Hankins was visiting.
News 12 was told Post disabled Hankins' car. When Hankins left the house, he had to stop a short distance away - and that was when Hankins was shot at close range with a shotgun.
The Ulster County District Attorney's Office said an order of protection has been granted to the Hankins family for the rest of the defendant's life.
In addition, Post must pay $8,200 to Hankins' family and the Crime Victims Board, which paid for a portion of the funeral expenses.
