An elderly woman in Ulster County fell nearly 50 feet to her death, down a steep embankment near the edge of the Rondout Creek in the Town of Esopus.

Investigators say the 83-year-old woman was doing yardwork at her home on New Salem Road Tuesday when she lost her balance and fell.

Family members searched and found her later and called for help.

Police did not release the name of the woman.
