TZB girders to be assembled in upstate NY
Massive pieces of the new Tappan Zee Bridge, which is being built upstate, were on display Wednesday ahead of its voyage to the construction site.
The steel girders are being assembled at the Port of Coeymans near Albany. They will be used to support the road deck on the new span.
The girders, which range from 60 to 120 feet, originally came from North Carolina and Pennsylvania.
The pieces are expected to be taken by barge down the Hudson River in the next few weeks to the project site.
Once they arrive, they will be hoisted by crane onto the 14-foot-thick concrete foundations that are dotting the Hudson River.
