? A woman is fighting for her life in the hospital and another driver was also injured in a car accident on Route 17 in Monroe Friday.

Authorities say a car crossed the median and hit a SUV head-on during the evening rush hour. The woman driving the SUV was seriously injured, but a child in a car seat was unharmed, according to police. The driver of the car was also taken to the hospital.

Investigators say the accident shut down the westbound side of Route 17 for close to four hours and caused a traffic jam to the New York State Thruway.
