A Valhalla scientist is being credited with making a breakthrough discovery – one that could reverse the effect of one of the most dangerous weapons on the planet.
A few years ago, Diane Hack, a scientist from the New York Medical College in Valhalla, responded to an ad in a journal offering grants to research a cure for mustard gas burns.
Her team tried dozens of times to find a remedy, and seven years later, they “cooked up” a cream that actually worked.

“It was just so amazing to realize you could actually stop a burn. That's not something for people in physiology and medicine, it’s just not part of what people thought was possible in any circumstances,” says Heck.
Heck believes it could work for all burns. She says it stops the progression of a burn and reverses its effects.
Dr. Heck says there is still a long way to go before their cream hits a local drugstore.
The FDA has not approved the cream for human testing.
