Trooper stops Tappan Zee jumper
Residents and colleagues are hailing a state trooper as a hero Thursday for persuading a woman not to jump from the Tappan Zee Bridge.
Trooper James Foley says he saw a woman walking at the foot of the bridge at about 12:30 a.m. Foley says he pulled over and began speaking to the woman, who he says is in her 30s.
Foley says after about 20 minutes he persuaded the woman to accompany him to the New York State Police barracks nearby. The woman later went to the hospital for treatment.
