Ten people, eight of them children, were taken to the hospital Tuesday after their school bus hit a utility pole in Yorktown.
Police say the driver apparently lost control of the bus on Route 132, struck a utility pole and came to rest along the guide rail. The bus was on its was to Copper Beech Middle School in Yorktown Heights when the accident occurred. The bus was driven by 69-year-old Andrew Gibney, a veteran bus driver for the Lakeland School District.
Gibney and the eight kids were not injured and released from the hospital. An aide on the bus may have a broken arm. Police are investigating the cause of the accident. Lakeland school officials will be conducting their own investigation.
