Trial adjourned for fatal wrong-way suspect
A Rockland man who is accused of killing a mother of four children in a wrong-way crash on the Tappan Zee Bridge had his trial adjourned Monday.
Prosecutors say Michael Schechel, 69, was driving the wrong way down the span last year, when he slammed head-on into Hannah Ayeh Brachie, of Hillcrest, and her husband. Brachie died at the scene, and her husband suffered severe injuries.
Schechel suffered a head injury and his girlfriend, Liz Huffman, suffered spinal injuries.
Schechel is charged with criminally negligent homicide.
