Tree lightings kick off holiday season
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas across the country.
Tree lighting ceremonies took place last night in a number of locations.
In Manhattan, the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree was lit up with over 45,000 LED lights. The 78-foot Norway Spruce was cut down in Ulster County last month. The tree will be lit until Jan. 6.
At the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., a 74-foot spruce from Alaska was decorated with thousands of ornaments, which were handcrafted by children and others from communities in Alaska.
Locally, the Fox Lane High School chorus performed at a tree lighting ceremony last night at the Holiday Inn in Mount Kisco. Hospice Care in Westchester and Putnam has held its Tree of Life celebration for the past 18 years. Locals can purchase a dove ornament and personalize it with the names of loved ones who've passed away from illness and hang them on the tree.
