A huge cleanup effort is underway after high winds and forceful rain caused a tree to crash down on a Westchester home Wednesday night.
It happened at 32 Meadow Road, near High Road, in Montrose. A blue tarp can be seen covering the gaping hole in the corner of the homeowner's bedroom.
Gertrude Lush, 86, had lived in the home since 1965. Her daughter, Janet Barry, says she was visiting family in North Carolina at the time. No one was inside when the tree fell.
Barry says a neighbor called her early Thursday morning to tell her what happened. She says her mother had new siding and windows installed on the house last year.
Lush was supposed to return home this weekend, but her daughter says she will ask her to extend her stay while repairs are made.
