A potentially dangerous situation was avoided this morning after a wrong-way driver was stopped on westbound I-287.

State police tells News 12 they stopped the driver without incident just before exit 10 in Rye Brook.

The left lane of westbound I-287 was closed as troopers investigated the situation.

State police say they believe the driver experienced a medical incident, causing them to drive in the wrong direction. The driver has been transported to a hospital for treatment and the vehicle taken off the roadway

Troopers say they believe no other vehicles were involved.
